Shiki no Mori White World Oze Iwakura, located in Katashina Village, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture, is one of the largest ski resorts in the Numata-Minakami area. Nestled on the northern ridge of Mt. Hotaka and the southeastern slope of Mt. Nishi, its high altitude ensures exceptionally good snow quality. Having hosted the Gunma National Sports Festival three times, its reputation for high-quality slopes is well-established. Boasting 18 diverse courses, from the thrilling 40-degree ungroomed expert course that challenges even the most seasoned skiers, to the picturesque 2.9 km Milky Way long cruise, the resort offers something for everyone. The 1,900-meter Iwakura Gondola efficiently transports you up the mountain, allowing for an impressive 697-meter vertical descent. The breathtaking panoramic views from the summit, encompassing Mt. Nikko-Shirane, Mt. Akagi, and Mt. Hotaka, are an added delight.
Snowboarders are welcome on all slopes, ensuring everyone can enjoy the freedom of the mountain. The base area is well-appointed with accommodations, including the Iwakura Resort Hotel, and excellent day-use hot spring facilities, allowing you to fully indulge in après-ski relaxation. With an IC card lift gate system, you can recharge your lift ticket online and proceed directly to the slopes without waiting in line at the ticket counter. Accessibility is excellent, approximately 60 minutes from Numata IC on the Kan-etsu Expressway. During winter, the 'Katashina Snow Express' highway bus also operates from Busta Shinjuku, providing convenient access from the Tokyo metropolitan area. More than just a destination for day-trippers, it's a captivating stay-type ski resort where guests can luxuriate in exquisite snow, soothing hot springs, and stunning scenic beauty, especially when combined with a stay at the resort hotel.
