Kashii Shrine

Overview

Kashii Shrine, located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is said to be where Empress Jingu prayed for victory in the Three Kingdoms campaign. It's renowned as the oldest shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture. Kashii Shrine boasts a rich history. The "Kashii-i" well, which Empress Jingu is said to have visited before departing for the Three Kingdoms campaign, suggests origins dating back to the Yayoi period. Tradition holds that after her victorious return, she established a shrine on this very spot, marking the beginning of Kashii Shrine. The expansive grounds of Kashii Shrine are home to numerous structures, including a gate, a prayer hall, and the main hall. The main hall, dedicated to Empress Jingu, is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, its majestic appearance truly awe-inspiring. Within the shrine grounds, you'll find other historically significant sites, such as the "Fufu no Miya" (Couple's Shrine), where the divine spirit of Empress Jingu resides, and the aforementioned "Kashii-i" well.
