The grounds are expansive and perfect for a leisurely stroll. There is parking for approximately 20-30 cars next to the shrine. For a *goshuin* (sacred seal), please find the pre-written ones in the unmanned office and leave the appropriate donation in the box.
Ono Shrine is located in Ono, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. It's renowned as the birthplace of Ono no Imoko, an envoy to Sui (China), and is revered as the clan shrine of the Ono clan. Listed in the Engishiki (an ancient Japanese document listing shrines) and considered a Myōjin Taisha (a high-ranking shrine), it has been cherished by the local people for centuries.
Within the shrine grounds, you'll also find Ono no Takamura Shrine and Ono no Tofu Shrine, adding to the historical atmosphere. Ono no Takamura Shrine, in particular, is popular as a power spot, rivaling Rokudo Jinno-ji Temple. Ono no Takamura was a Confucian scholar of the early Heian period, known for his excellent waka (Japanese poetry). He also served as an onmyoji (a practitioner of divination and magic) and is legendary for guiding the souls of the dead.
