Overview
Kikuyu Yokocho is a historic streetscape located in the Horinouchi district near Hagi Castle in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Designated as a part of the Hagi City Traditional Buildings Preservation District, it was once part of Hagi Castle's third bailey, where high-ranking samurai of the Mori clan and their retainers resided.
The old townscape remains largely intact, with stone-paved streets, white-walled storehouses, and tile-roofed houses, creating a strong sense of a bygone castle town. Take a stroll and imagine the lives and culture of those who lived here.
Beyond the historical buildings, Kikuyu Yokocho also boasts cafes and souvenir shops, perfect for a break or some souvenir hunting during your exploration.
With many other historical sights nearby, such as Hagi Castle and the Shokasonjuku (松下村塾), a visit to Kikuyu Yokocho is an excellent addition to your sightseeing itinerary.
