Kamiya Shrine, located in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, is dedicated to Kagutsuchi no Mikoto, a fire god appearing in Japanese mythology. Kagutsuchi no Mikoto is the child of Izanagi and Izanami. Izanami suffered burns giving birth to him and subsequently died, leading Izanagi to slay Kagutsuchi. Therefore, Kagutsuchi is known not only as a fire god but also for his tragic fate. The shrine's main hall is built in the Nagare-zukuri style, characterized by its large roof, long ridgepole, and deep eaves—features symbolizing sacred space. As the oldest surviving example of this style, it is designated as a National Treasure. Nestled in the majestic natural setting of Goshikidai, Kamiya Shrine exudes a sacred atmosphere of tranquility, truly a power spot. The grounds also feature a viewing platform overlooking Goshikidai and a museum showcasing the shrine's history. Goshikidai itself is famous for its stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea; be sure to visit it when you're at the shrine.
