Choja Lake

Overview

Choja Lake is a mystical lake, approximately 2km in circumference, located in Shichigasuku-machi, Miyagi Prefecture. Situated at an altitude of approximately 500m at the foot of Mount Funashi in the Zao mountain range, it was once a small marsh but was expanded for hydroelectric power generation, resulting in its current form. The lake reflects the majestic image of Mount Funashi, and its quiet, mystical atmosphere, surrounded by a primeval beech forest, transports visitors to another world. In spring, fresh greenery covers the trees, and the lake surface shines emerald green, creating a vibrant and lively landscape. In summer, you can seek coolness in the shade of the trees and enjoy a stroll along the lakeshore. In autumn, the primeval beech forest turns into a breathtaking spectacle of fiery reds and yellows, reflected in the lake's surface. A walking path encircles Choja Lake, allowing for a leisurely walk of about 45 minutes to fully appreciate the abundant nature. There's also a trail leading to Yokogawa Valley, a 15-minute walk offering stunning valley views and the thrill of crossing a suspension bridge.
