Overview

Komoro Castle Ruins Kai Koen is a historical park in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture, and a designated member of the 100 Famous Castles of Japan. Developed on the site of a former castle, it's also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot. Within the park, you'll find various facilities including Komoro City Zoo, Komoro City Children's Playground, Komoro City Koyama Keizo Museum of Art, Komoro City Local History Museum, Komoro City Fujimura Memorial Museum, and Kaiko Shrine. Komoro Castle is said to have been built by Takeda Shingen during the Sengoku period. Later, Sen-no-Iyehide, a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu, became the castle lord and laid the foundations for the current castle structure. It was abandoned in the Meiji period and subsequently developed into a park. Kai Koen boasts a vast expanse of land, preserving remnants of the former castle, including stone walls, moats, and the castle keep foundation. The park is also abundant in natural beauty, with cherry blossom avenues and ponds. Cherry blossoms bloom spectacularly in spring, and the autumn foliage is breathtaking, making it enjoyable year-round. The park also offers child-friendly facilities such as Komoro City Zoo and Komoro City Children's Playground. At Komoro City Koyama Keizo Museum of Art, you can appreciate contemporary art. Komoro City Local History Museum allows you to learn about the history and culture of Komoro.
