The area around the Ashiwagawa cherry blossom trees and Ashiwa Mountain is Fukui City's most popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spot. During the cherry blossom season, the surrounding roads become extremely congested, with traffic jams often occurring. To avoid delays, we strongly recommend using public transportation or walking instead of driving.
Parking in surrounding roads, near supermarkets, convenience stores, or commercial facilities inconveniences local residents and is strictly prohibited.
The Asuwa River Cherry Blossom Line is a truly spectacular sight, boasting approximately 600 cherry trees in full bloom along the Asuwa River, running through the heart of Fukui City. Its history dates back to the Fukui Restoration Exposition in 1952, where the trees were planted using funds donated by citizens. This cherry blossom line stands as a symbol of post-disaster recovery, offering hope to many.
The 2.2km-long tunnel of cherry blossoms is an iconic Fukui landscape heralding the arrival of spring. The "Fukui Cherry Blossom Festival" is held annually from early to mid-April, coinciding with the peak bloom.
During the festival, food stalls line the Asuwa River Cherry Blossom Line, creating a vibrant atmosphere. It served as the center of the Echizen Matsudaira family's prosperity for approximately 270 years. From the castle's keep ruins, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the cherry blossom line and Fukui City.
Asuwa Mountain Park, located on 116.4m high Asuwa Mountain, is a nature-rich park overflowing with cherry blossoms and hydrangeas. It also features a mini-zoo and an amusement park, making it enjoyable for families with young children.
