Akagi Nanmen Senbonsakura is a renowned cherry blossom viewing spot in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Selected as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots, this magnificent avenue boasts approximately 1400 Someiyoshino cherry trees blooming along a 3.5km stretch. This cherry blossom avenue was developed as part of a three-year greening project launched in 1956.
Stretching along National Route 353 on the southern slope of Mount Akagi, the cherry blossom avenue is truly awe-inspiring. Due to the elevation difference, you can enjoy various stages of cherry blossoms from early to early May. The cherry blossom season is long, with a variety of early and late-blooming varieties.
Every April, a cherry blossom festival attracts over 100,000 visitors from Gunma Prefecture and beyond. During the festival, the area comes alive with food stalls and various events.
Even after the cherry blossoms fall, the area continues to offer seasonal beauty. From early to late May, you can enjoy the vibrant Yama-tsutsuji (Japanese azalea), and from late September to early October, the striking Higanbana (red spider lily) are in full bloom. Akagi Nanmen Senbonsakura is a tourist spot that can be enjoyed throughout the year, not just during the cherry blossom season.
