Orizuma-dake

Overview

Orizuma-dake is an 852.2m mountain located in Kunugi Village, Kunugi District, Iwate Prefecture, on the border with Ninohe City. The greatest attraction of Orizuma-dake is the breathtaking panoramic view from its summit. You can see Ninohe City, Kunugi Village, and Hachinohe City, and on a clear day, you can even see Mount Iwate, Mount Iwaki in Aomori Prefecture, the Hakkoda Mountains, and the Hachinohe coastline. The sunset view is particularly stunning, with the sun sinking beautifully into the ocean, captivating many visitors. Orizuma-dake is known as an easily accessible mountain, attracting many hikers and trekkers. While you can drive to the summit, it's also recommended to walk, taking in the five stunning waterfalls along the way, known as the Orizuma Go-taki. These five waterfalls—Odde-sama no taki, Esashike-ootaki, Himemachi, Orihime no taki, and Kiyomizu no taki—each possess unique characteristics. Orizuma-dake is also popular with mountain bikers (MTB). Near the summit, you'll find Orizuma-dake Mountain Lodge and a campground, offering accommodation options. Orizuma-dake is a nature-rich area where you can enjoy various activities such as hiking, trekking, mountain biking, and camping. In early summer, the mesmerizing sight of the Japanese fireflies adds to its charm. Orizuma-dake is a highly recommended sightseeing spot where you can connect with nature and enjoy magnificent scenery.
