The Seikan Tunnel is the world's longest undersea tunnel, stretching 53.85km and connecting Hokkaido and Honshu. Constructed between 1964 and 1988, its creation overcame numerous challenges. The Seikan Tunnel Commemorative Museum vividly and engagingly presents the tunnel's history and engineering marvels. The museum features massive excavation machines used in the construction, models, and photographs, allowing visitors to see, touch, and experience how the tunnel was built. A cable car called the "Mogura-gō" takes you down to the "Experience Tunnel," located 140m underground—a former passageway for workers. The tunnel retains its original atmosphere, offering a palpable sense of the harsh conditions faced during construction. The Seikan Tunnel Commemorative Museum is an educational and inspiring place for visitors of all ages. Make sure to visit if you're in Aomori Prefecture!
