Kaimon-dake is a 924-meter-high volcano located at the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Its beautiful conical shape has earned it the nickname 'Satsuma Fuji'. From the summit, you can enjoy a stunning 360-degree panorama, including the expansive Pacific Ocean, Yakushima Island in the distance, and the majestic Lake Ikeda.
The well-maintained trails make Kaimon-dake accessible to hikers of all levels. The climb takes about 3 hours, and the relatively easy ascent is well worth the effort. From the top, witness the sun sinking below the Pacific horizon or marvel at the starlit sky on a clear night.
The area surrounding Kaimon-dake is brimming with attractions, including hot springs, historical sites, and delicious seafood. The "Sunamushi Onsen" (sand bath onsen) located at the foot of the mountain is particularly famous. This unique onsen involves being buried in volcanic sand heated by geothermal activity, providing a deeply relaxing and warming experience.
At the base of Kaimon-dake lies the Kaimon Mountain Foot Nature Park, featuring diverse flora including Tokara horses and tropical and subtropical plants.
Kaimon-dake is a captivating blend of nature, culture, and history. Experience the majesty of this magnificent mountain for yourself.
