The Arimuma Lava Observatory is one of Sakurajima's premier sightseeing spots, situated on the Taisho lava flow at the foot of Minamidake volcano. From here, a breathtaking panorama unfolds: a sprawling lava field punctuated by resilient Japanese black pines, all overlooking the magnificent Kinko Bay. On a clear day, you can even spot the distant Kaimon-dake volcano.
A roughly one-kilometer-long walking path winds through the area, offering a chance to fully appreciate Sakurajima's natural beauty. Along the path, you'll find numerous poems and songs inscribed on stone monuments, making for a pleasant literary stroll. Keep an eye out for Lion Rock, a uniquely shaped lava formation along the path!
