Sekino-o Falls

Overview

Sekino-o Falls, located in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture, is a renowned waterfall selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. The large waterfall and its surrounding area, encompassed by lush greenery, are designated as a national natural monument. The majestic 18-meter-high waterfall was formed over many years by the erosion of welded tuff, a volcanic rock formed approximately 330,000 years ago. Upstream from the falls, thousands of potholes (pot holes) of varying sizes exist, forming a collection of significant global scale.
