Shikouko Lake is located on the southeastern slope of Mount Tsurumi in Beppu City, nestled at an altitude of approximately 600 meters. While not particularly large—with a circumference of about 2km and an area of approximately 90,000 square meters—its tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by mountains, offers a serene escape. Elegant swans and carp swim gracefully across the lake's surface, often approaching visitors. You can even enjoy feeding these friendly creatures. The swans, in particular, often come very close to the lakeshore, offering a captivating view of their beauty. The lakeshore features a campsite and an adventure playground (athletic facilities), making it an ideal spot for families to spend an entire day. The campsite offers stunning natural views, while the playground provides exciting equipment that stimulates children's adventurous spirit—and is fun for adults too! Nearby is Kagurameko, renowned for its irises, connected by a pleasant walking path, perfect for a stroll. Kagurameko offers an even more tranquil atmosphere than Shikouko Lake, with breathtakingly beautiful irises reflected in the still waters.
