The Beppu Ropeway is a cable car that connects the foot and summit of Mount Tsurumi (1,374.5m) in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. Operated by Beppu Ropeway Co., Ltd., it's part of the Kintetsu Group. Opened on December 21, 1962, its gondolas, with a capacity of 101 passengers, were a world first at the time. Even today, two gondolas, each carrying up to 101 passengers, operate, taking approximately 10 minutes to reach the summit station. From the gondola, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Beppu Bay, Yufu-dake volcano, and, on clear days, even Shikoku and the Kujū mountain range. A 15-minute walk from the summit station leads to the peak of Mount Tsurumi. The summit features an observation deck and well-maintained walking trails, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of nature throughout the year.
