INFO
Admission fees for the observation deck and museum can be paid with PayPay. The tower's illumination colors change with the seasons and special events, featuring hues like cherry blossom pink, sea and sky blue, autumn foliage colors, champagne gold, rainbow, and Christmas tree green. On the 2nd floor, the Beppu Art Museum exhibits a miniature Beppu Tower that was featured in the movie 'Dai Kaiju Bugon.' Additionally, a BBQ Beer Garden operates on the 5th floor, available only from April to October.
Beppu Tower, built in 1957 as a highlight of the Beppu Onsen Tourism and Industrial Exposition, is a cherished symbol of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture. It's one of the "Six Tower Brothers" designed by structural engineer Tachu Naito, making history as Japan's third-tallest tower after Nagoya TV Tower and Tsutenkaku. In 2007, its architectural significance was recognized with its designation as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
Following a major renovation and reopening in January 2023, the tower now offers an even more comfortable experience with replaced observation deck glass and enhanced LED lighting. From the observation deck, 55 meters (180 feet) above ground, a 360-degree panorama unfolds, showcasing the magnificent Beppu Bay, the cityscape of Beppu with its rising steam, and the surrounding mountains like Mt. Tsurumi. At night, the dazzling nightscape, certified as a Japan Night View Heritage site, spreads out below, with diverse illuminations tailored to seasons and events creating an enchanting atmosphere.
Inside the tower, visitors can enjoy dining and art appreciation at facilities such as the Beppu Art Museum, Café CREOLE CAFE, Gelato Shop KABUKI PIEROT, and the BBQ Beer Garden 'Kitahama Deck ~Sky and Light Terrace~'. Beppu Tower, where history and modernity converge, is an unmissable and attractive spot for Beppu sightseeing.
