The Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, located right next to Kumamoto Castle, is a place where you can enjoy local history and art at the same time. It houses approximately 5,400 works, ranging from ancient to contemporary art, including the "Hosokawa Collection Permanent Exhibition Room" showcasing masterpieces associated with the Hosokawa family, the lords of the Kumamoto domain.
A particularly popular area is the Decorated Tumulus Chamber. Although they are replicas, decorated tumuli such as the Chipsan Tumulus have been recreated, and you'll be overwhelmed by the high level of technology and beauty of the time. Even those who have seen the actual tumuli will be able to feel their charm once again.
In addition, genuine works, such as Rodin's sculptures, are displayed where photography is allowed. It's rare to be able to take pictures in a museum, so it's a great opportunity to capture some memories.
When visiting Kumamoto Castle, be sure to stop by and immerse yourself in history and art.
