Sarakurayama Observatory

Overview

Sarakurayama Observatory is located atop Sarakurayama mountain, 622 meters above sea level, in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu city. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Kitakyushu city, the Kanmon Straits, and the Hibiki Bay. Its nighttime view is particularly stunning, counted among the "New Three Major Night Views of Japan," offering a breathtaking display of glittering city lights below. During the day, the beautiful contrast of the blue sky and sea offers a refreshing experience. To reach the summit, use the Sarakurayama Ropeway. The ropeway itself offers a retro ambiance, and the views from the windows are enjoyable. From the summit station, you can transfer to a slope car to reach the observatory. There are restaurants and shops around the observatory, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery. Sarakurayama has long been known as a mountain of faith, and Sarakura Shrine is located at the summit. Sarakura Shrine is said to offer blessings for matchmaking and warding off evil.
