Kamado Shrine, located in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is an ancient shrine with a long history of devotion. It's believed to offer blessings for warding off evil from the kimon direction, ensuring safe childbirth, and business prosperity. Recently, it's gained significant attention as a pilgrimage site for fans of the popular anime, "Demon Slayer," due to its namesake coinciding with the protagonist's family name.
The grounds include the ruins of Oyama-dera Temple, a former Jinjūji (temple associated with a shrine), with remaining foundation stones. The shrine is also known for its beautiful autumn foliage. It consists of a lower shrine (shimo-gu) located on the middle slopes of Mt. Hooman and an upper shrine (kami-gu) at the summit. Historically, there was also a middle shrine (chu-gu).
Furthermore, the shrine grounds contain the grave of Kongobei, a swordsmith, making it a popular stop on "Demon Slayer" pilgrimage tours. Kongobei was a highly skilled swordsmith active during the Muromachi period. His grave, located within the shrine grounds, attracts many visitors.
