Sameura Dam, located in Tosa-cho, Tosacho-gun, Kochi Prefecture, is the largest dam in Shikoku. Completed in 1971 as part of the Yoshino River Comprehensive Development Plan, it stands 114 meters tall, has a dam body length of 395 meters, and boasts a total storage capacity of 316 million tons. It's a crucial water source supplying the four prefectures of Shikoku. Its immense size is awe-inspiring, and its reservoir level frequently makes the news during water shortages, highlighting its indispensable role in people's lives. Near the dam, you'll find an administration office and a left-bank observation deck. Dam cards, popular collector's items commemorating visits to dams, are available at nearby roadside stations (Michi-no-Eki). The surrounding area boasts abundant nature, perfect for hiking and cycling. Sameura Lake, the reservoir created by the dam, is also known as a black bass fishing spot, often hosting Shikoku-wide bass fishing tournaments.
