Mt. Bizan

Overview

Mt. Bizan has long been cherished as a symbol of Tokushima City. As mentioned in the Manyoshu, 'Like an eyebrow, Mount Awa appears in the clouds,' its beautiful figure has captivated people since ancient times. From the summit, 290m above sea level, you can see not only the city of Tokushima but also Awaji Island and the Kii Mountains on a clear day. The summit is maintained as Bizan Park, where you can enjoy the nature of the four seasons. The summit also has various attractions such as the LED kaleidoscope 'Bizan Kakei' and a lover's spot. Because it is easily accessible by ropeway, it is loved not only by tourists but also by locals. Tracing its history, Mt. Bizan has watched over the scenery of Tokushima since the Manyo era. Statues of Emperor Jinmu and Emperor Meiji are enshrined on the hillside, and the three-storied pagoda of Mt. Otaki once stood as a landmark. Mt. Bizan is also known as a mountain of faith, with many shrines and temples scattered throughout. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring, and autumn leaves color the mountain in autumn. The beautiful natural scenery of the four seasons is also one of the attractions of Mt. Bizan. If you use the Bizan Ropeway, you will arrive at the summit in just 6 minutes from Awa Odori Kaikan. The view from the ropeway is also exceptional, and you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokushima City. There are observation decks and rest areas at the summit, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The night view is especially beautiful and is recommended for couples who want to enjoy a romantic atmosphere.
