Taishaku Gorge is a approximately 18km-long limestone gorge located in Shobara City and Kamisaka Highland Town in the Chugoku Mountains.
Formed about 300 million years ago, the gorge is the result of erosion over millennia of layers of green tuff, a volcanic rock formed from the eruption of an underwater volcano.
Taishaku Gorge's main attraction is "O-bashi," a natural limestone bridge designated as a national natural monument. Standing approximately 50 meters high, its majestic presence is a testament to the power of nature.
Near O-bashi is "Hakun-do," a limestone cave approximately 200 meters deep. Inside, beautifully gleaming stalactites of various shapes create a truly magical atmosphere.
Well-maintained walking paths allow for easy access to O-bashi and Hakun-do. You can also enjoy the gorge's beauty from a sightseeing boat on Shinryu Lake.
Taishaku Gorge offers a place to feel the power of nature and soothe your soul. Come and experience the breathtaking gorge for yourself.
