Nakanoshima Park

Overview

Located in the heart of Osaka, nestled between the Dōjima River and the Tosabori River, Nakanoshima Park was Osaka's first park, established in 1891 (Meiji 24). This green oasis stretches approximately 1.5km long and covers 11.3 hectares. The flowing rivers, along with the stately Central Public Hall and Osaka Prefectural Central Library, create a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. The park boasts a rose garden featuring approximately 3,700 rose bushes of around 310 varieties. In spring, the vibrant colors and sweet fragrance are intoxicating. Nakanoshima Public Hall, a magnificent red-brick building constructed in 1918 (Taisho 7), is a masterpiece of Neo-Renaissance architecture and a beloved symbol of Nakanoshima. The Osaka Prefectural Central Library, completed in 1904 (Meiji 37), is a stately stone building. Its green dome, reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome, and the imposing colonnade at the entrance are striking features. It's designated as an Important Cultural Property. The Nakanoshima Midorimichi, a 400-meter-long path from Yodoyabashi to Higobashi, is a peaceful promenade lined with zelkova, camellia, and azalea trees, and features ten expressive sculptures.
