Overview

Fushimi Momoyama Castle, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi shortly after his unification of Japan, boasts a long and tumultuous history reflecting a turbulent era. Hideyoshi's original castle was magnificent in scale and constructed with the most advanced technology of its time. Later rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the castle continued to flourish until its destruction in the Battle of Sekigahara. The present Fushimi Momoyama Castle is a reconstructed keep built in 1964 (Showa 39), preserving the majestic appearance of the original castle. Fushimi Castle is located within the expansive Shiroyama Park, which features cherry blossom avenues, grassy lawns, and scenic walking paths offering diverse natural beauty throughout the year. Spring sees a breathtaking display of cherry blossoms, painting the castle in shades of pink, while autumn brings vibrant fall foliage. The panoramic view of Kyoto from Shiroyama is simply spectacular. Fushimi Momoyama Castle is a superb tourist destination where history and nature harmoniously coexist.
