Biwako Ohashi Bridge is a vital link connecting the east and west sides of Shiga Prefecture. It consists of the original bridge, opened in September 1964 (Showa 39), and a new bridge, opened in July 1994 (Heisei 6) to accommodate increased traffic. The new bridge, stretching 1,400 meters, is long enough to fit approximately 850 adults with their arms outstretched!
