Jōgasaki Coast

Overview

Jōgasaki Coast is a coastal area located in the southeast of Itō City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is designated as part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Located on the east coast of the central Izu Peninsula, it is characterized by its steep cliffs facing the Sagami Sea. This coast was formed by volcanic activity about 4,000 years ago. When the Ōmuroyama volcano, part of the eastern Izu volcanic group, erupted, lava flowed out and filled in the coastline for nearly 2km, creating the current landscape. Numerous oddly shaped rocks of various sizes line the coast, forming a rugged yet beautiful scenery. Jōgasaki Coast also features two well-maintained walking paths: the "Jōgasaki Picnic Course" and the "Jōgasaki Nature Study Trail," allowing you to walk along the coast for a total of 9km. From the walking paths, you can enjoy stunning views of the magnificent coastline and the blue ocean, experiencing nature while feeling the refreshing sea breeze. One of the most representative tourist spots on Jōgasaki Coast is the Monowaki Suspension Bridge. This 48m long suspension bridge spans a 23m high cliff, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the blue sea and the magnificent coastline. Crossing this thrilling suspension bridge while taking in the magnificent scenery will surely create an unforgettable memory. The Monowaki Saki Lighthouse is another iconic landmark of Jōgasaki Coast. The lighthouse also serves as an observation deck, offering a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.
