Horai-bashi Bridge

Overview

Horai-bashi Bridge is a wooden bridge located in Okoyama, Kita-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is registered as a nationally-designated Important Cultural Property. With a total length of 967 meters, it holds the title of Japan's longest wooden bridge. On both sides of the bridge, you'll find expansive paddy fields offering a tranquil and idyllic landscape. At the end of the bridge, you can visit the Horai-bashi Bridge Museum, where you can learn about the bridge's origins and history. Horai-bashi Bridge boasts a long history, believed to have been built in the late Edo period. The name is said to be derived from Mount Horai, which once stood in this area. Mount Horai was revered as a sacred mountain, and it is said that the development of rice paddies utilizing the clear stream flowing from the mountain led to the settlement of people in this region.
