Ogaki Castle

Overview

Ogaki Castle was constructed in 1536 by Saito Dosan. Later, it was occupied by Ikeda Tsuneyoshi, a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, and subsequently changed hands among various feudal lords. During the Edo period, it became the castle of the Ogaki Domain, a branch of the Owari Domain, and remained so until the Meiji Restoration. Known as a water castle surrounded by the Kiso Three Rivers (Kiso River, Nagara River, and Ibi River), Ogaki Castle's grandeur is truly impressive, captivating even those not particularly interested in castles. The keep, rebuilt in 1603, is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The view from the keep is spectacular, offering a panoramic vista of Ogaki City and the Kiso Three Rivers. Within the castle grounds, you'll find a historical museum and a tea room, providing opportunities to learn about Ogaki Castle's history and culture. Furthermore, the castle grounds boast beautiful seasonal flowers, including cherry blossoms and autumn foliage, offering stunning scenery throughout the year.
