Jigokudani Monkey Park, located in the Shiga Kogen area of Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park in northern Nagano Prefecture, is renowned as the only place in the world where you can observe monkeys bathing in a hot spring. Situated at an elevation of 850 meters, this area experiences harsh conditions, covered in snow for nearly a third of the year. However, it's a paradise for the monkeys, with a troop of Japanese macaques living naturally in this area since ancient times. Since its opening in 1964, Jigokudani Monkey Park has been beloved worldwide as a place to observe the fascinating behaviors of Japanese macaques up close. Many researchers and photographers also visit, contributing to our understanding of the importance of coexistence between nature and wildlife.
At Jigokudani Monkey Park, you can observe not only the adorable sight of monkeys soaking in the hot springs but also their behavior in the snow and their social structures. Observing their actions allows you to appreciate their intelligence, social nature, and remarkable adaptability to their environment.
Jigokudani Monkey Park is a precious place to experience interacting with nature and wildlife. Enjoy a heartwarming moment observing the adorable monkeys and appreciating the beauty of nature.
