Minobu Mountain Kuonji Temple is the head temple of Nichiren Buddhism, located in Minobu-cho, Minami-Koma District, Yamanashi Prefecture. It's believed that Nichiren Daishonin passed away here in 1281, and his remains are enshrined within the temple. Founded by Nichiren Daishonin, Kuonji Temple has been an important site for transmitting his teachings, drawing countless believers for centuries. The grounds feature magnificent historical structures, including a grand mountain gate, main hall, and five-story pagoda. The mountain gate, a towering structure approximately 16 meters high and 12 meters wide, was rebuilt during the Tempo period (1830-1843). The five-story pagoda, built by Nichiren Daishonin's disciple, Nikko Shonin, is a precious example of Kamakura-period architecture.
