Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is one of Japan's leading comprehensive marine leisure facilities, set on the entire Hakkeijima island in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama. It comprises aquariums, an amusement park, a shopping mall, a hotel, and a marina. Since its opening in 1993, it has been cherished by countless visitors. Admission to the island itself is free, allowing guests to wander freely, with fees applied to individual facilities.
The biggest draw is its four aquariums, collectively known as 'Aqua Resorts,' each with a unique concept. The 'Aqua Museum,' a large pyramid-shaped aquarium, features the breathtaking 'Super Iwashi Illusion,' where 50,000 sardines — the most in Japan — swirl in mesmerizing formations. In July 2024, 'Animal Life Live!' underwent a full renewal, offering a new sensory live performance where sound, light, fountains, and dolphins come together, enjoyable both day and night. At the beautiful glass-domed 'Dolphin Fantasy,' dolphins gracefully swim overhead, providing an immersive experience as if you're underwater. 'Fureai Lagoon,' conceptualized as an 'Open Aquarium,' offers a rich array of interactive programs where you can directly interact with dolphins, belugas, penguins, and more. Furthermore, at 'Umi Farm,' themed around 'Umi-iku' (marine education), visitors can learn about the marine environment in a fun way through fishing and food experiences.
The 'Pleasure Land' boasts over 20 attractions, from thrilling rides to family-friendly options, including Japan's first partially ocean-crossing roller coaster, 'Surf Coaster Leviathan,' and the 'Sea Paradise Tower,' offering 360-degree panoramic views from a height of 90 meters. There's also a wealth of seasonal events, with the 'Fireworks Symphonia' held in summer being a spectacular show where sound and light synchronize in a powerful display. The island also features restaurants, shops, and the 'Hotel Sea Paradise Inn,' making it convenient for guests to rest or stay overnight after a long day of fun. Souvenir shopping is another enjoyable activity. Services such as disability discounts, stroller rentals, and a first-aid center are also available, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their visit with peace of mind.
