Atago Shrine is a shrine located in Atago, Minato-ku, Tokyo, situated atop 26-meter-high Atagoyama. It's known as a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Established by Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Edo period as a god of fire prevention, it's believed to offer protection from fires. Particularly famous are the steep stone steps known as the "Success Stairs," built in the Edo period. These 86 steps are said to bring blessings upon completion. From the shrine's main hall, reached after ascending these steps, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo. Atago Shrine holds an annual festival called "Sen-nichi Mairi" (Thousand-Day Pilgrimage) in June. It's believed that visiting on this day grants the blessings of a thousand days. A lively lantern market also takes place within the shrine grounds. Bus access is also convenient via the Toei Bus Shibuya 88 line (get off at Toranomon 3-chome stop) or the Tokyu Bus Tokyu 98 line (get off at Atagoyama-shita stop).
