Yanaka Cemetery, a Tokyo Metropolitan public cemetery in Yanaka, Taitō-ku, Tokyo, houses approximately 7,000 graves. It was once part of Tennoji Temple's grounds, with the central pathway serving as the approach to Kan'ōji Temple. During the Edo period, Kan'ōji Temple held a lottery, attracting many visitors as one of the "three great lotteries of Edo." A vestige of this remains today, with cemetery staff referring to the flower shop along the central path as the "tea house." Yanaka Cemetery is known as a place steeped in history and culture.
