Overview

Chichibu Shrine has been a center of faith for the people of the Chichibu region for centuries, its history tracing back approximately 2100 years. Initially located slightly away from its current site, it was later relocated to its present position. The grounds are filled with highlights, including the "Chichibu Shrine Main Hall," a National Treasure, the exquisitely carved "Haiden" (worship hall), and a beautiful garden. The carvings on the Main Hall are said to be the work of Hidari Jingoro, a sculptor famous for his work at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and their intricate detail is truly awe-inspiring. The shrine is also renowned for the "Chichibu Night Festival," held annually on December 2nd and 3rd. The spectacle of giant festival floats parading through the streets is breathtaking. Chichibu Shrine offers a harmonious blend of history, tradition, and nature, providing visitors with a sense of peace and wonder.
