Overview

Nagatoro Gorge, located in the Chichibu region of Saitama Prefecture, is a valley in the upper reaches of the Arakawa River. Its stunning scenery has earned it the designation of "Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument." The approximately 6km-long gorge was formed over countless years by the Arakawa River's erosion, creating diverse landforms such as rock formations, unique rocks, and cliffs. Among them, the "Iwadatami" (rock pavement), a flat rock surface covering the riverbed, is an iconic sight of Nagatoro Gorge.
