Ryū Q Kan is a museum located in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture, inside the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's flood control facility, the "Capital Region Outer Ring Discharge Channel". This massive underground tunnel protects a vast area of the capital region, including Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, and Kanagawa prefectures, spanning approximately 6.3km. Ryū Q Kan offers detailed explanations of the channel's functions and roles through models and videos.
The highlight is undoubtedly the giant pressure-equalizing chamber, known as the "underground shrine." Fifty-nine 18-meter-high columns, each weighing 500 tons, create an awe-inspiring spectacle. This chamber regulates the flow of water from the tunnel, temporarily storing large volumes of water during floods.
Ryū Q Kan also showcases the enormous pumps used for flood control and the technologies employed in the tunnel's construction. These exhibits underscore the excellence of Japan's water management technology and the importance of disaster preparedness.
With user-friendly displays and videos for children, Ryū Q Kan is perfect for families. Relaxation areas and a cafe are also available for a comfortable visit.
While the Capital Region Outer Ring Discharge Channel is usually unseen, Ryū Q Kan allows visitors to learn about its existence and importance. Experience the wonder of Japan's water management technology – visit Ryū Q Kan!
