Hisaizu Shrine, located in Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, has been a beloved and revered main shrine of Koshigaya for centuries. With a history spanning nearly 1400 years, its founding is believed to be in the Kamakura period. The grounds are dotted with numerous subsidiary shrines, each with its own unique history and significance. Notably, the "Nan'yo Shrine Former Site Remote Worship Hall" located behind the main hall, commemorates the Nan'yo Shrine, built on Koror Island in Palau during World War II, which served as a place of worship for Japanese settlers. Interestingly, Hisaizu Shrine is also known as the "Quiz Shrine" because it once served as a preliminary round venue for the American Transcontinental Ultra Quiz. The shrine's serene and tranquil atmosphere makes it an ideal place for peaceful contemplation, allowing visitors to cleanse their minds and bodies while soaking in the rich history. The grounds also feature the Matsugoean, said to be the former temporary residence of the scholar Hirata Atsutane, making it appealing to history buffs. Furthermore, the wisteria vines on the grounds are a designated prefectural natural monument, blooming spectacularly from late April to early May. The breathtaking view of the wisteria in full bloom is a sight not to be missed. Conveniently located a 15-minute walk from Koshigaya Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line, it's easily accessible by train. Be sure to visit!
