Onioshidashi Park, located in Tsumagoi Village, Gunma Prefecture, is a scenic area formed by the solidified lava flow from Mount Asama's Tenmei eruption. On August 5, 1783, Mount Asama erupted violently, spewing a massive amount of lava. This lava flow cascaded down the mountainside, covering a vast area, including the present-day Onioshidashi Park. The park, formed from this solidified lava flow, is named "Onioshidashi" (literally, "demons pushing out rocks") because of its dramatic landscape.
A well-maintained walking path winds its way through the lava flow, allowing for a leisurely stroll. The sheer scale and power of the lava are truly awe-inspiring from the path. The park also features spots where seasonal flowers bloom against the backdrop of Mount Asama, offering a stunning contrast between the majestic natural landscape and delicate blooms. Onioshidashi Park is a precious place where you can simultaneously experience the raw power and beauty of nature.
Onioshidashi Park is part of the Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park, a significant area for nature conservation. The park actively works towards environmental protection and educates visitors about the importance of nature. It's a valuable tourist spot where you can witness the destructive power and captivating beauty of nature.
