The British Embassy Villa Memorial Park is a historical building that was built in 1896 as a private villa for British diplomat Ernest Satow, and later used as the British Embassy Villa until 2008. Satow was a diplomat who played an active role in Japan from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era, and made a great contribution to the modernization of Japan. He loved the nature of Okunikko and built his villa in this area. The villa is a two-story wooden Japanese-style building with a Western-style interior. The villa houses exhibits introducing Satow's life and achievements, as well as materials conveying British culture at the time. On the second floor, there is a café called "South 4 Classic" where you can enjoy scones and tea supervised by the chef of the British Embassy. The garden is filled with seasonal flowers, offering beautiful scenery. The British Embassy Villa Memorial Park is an attractive spot where history, culture, and nature blend.
