Ushiku Daibutsu

Overview

Ushiku Daibutsu, completed in 1993, is a massive 120-meter-tall bronze statue of Amitabha Tathagata, known as one of the world's largest Buddhas. It was built to pray for world peace and human happiness. Inside the Buddha, an elevator takes you to an observation deck offering panoramic views of Lake Ushiku and the surrounding area. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Tsukuba in the distance. From the observation deck, you can enjoy both the majestic natural scenery and the cityscape. At the foot of the Buddha lies a vast garden, where you can admire flowers in every season.
