Overview

The Zao Echo Line is a mountain sightseeing road traversing the Zao mountain range east to west, connecting Miyagi and Yamagata Prefectures. It opened in November 1962. Approximately 20km long with an elevation difference of about 1,000m, it offers stunning scenery throughout the year. In spring, the snow walls created by snow removal are breathtaking, offering a sense of winter's severity and the breath of spring. Summer allows you to enjoy lush mountains and abundant negative ions. Autumn paints the mountains with vibrant reds and yellows of the fall foliage. Near the summit, you'll find attractive sightseeing spots such as the mystical crater lake "Okama" and the Zao Summit Rest House with its panoramic views.
