Many of these islands were once connected to the mainland, but separated due to rising sea levels over a long period. The Matsushima Bay Cruise allows you to see these islands up close, experiencing Matsushima's history and nature. For example, the uniquely shaped rock formations known as "Oni no Sentakuita" (Devil's Washboard), a designated national natural monument, can only be seen from the boat. Zuiganji Temple, a representative temple of Matsushima Bay, is also visible from the cruise. Zuiganji Temple was founded by Date Masamune and features buildings and gardens designated as Important Cultural Properties.
