Iyo Sai Matsuri is a cherished summer tradition for the residents of Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture. Held over two days on the last Saturday and Sunday of July, this festival transforms the entire city into a vibrant celebration. The event features traditional parades, local community festivities, and a grand fireworks display that lights up the night sky, drawing crowds to experience the true spirit of a Japanese summer.
The festival offers a diverse program spread across two days. On the first day, Saturday, you can witness the "Iyo Odori Parade," a high-energy event showcasing local dance and tradition. On Sunday, the festivities expand around the Iyo Port pier and the surrounding shopping districts, filled with local charm and energy.
The absolute highlight is the spectacular fireworks display over Iyo Port. Approximately 10,000 fireworks are launched into the sky, creating a breathtaking and colorful spectacle against the backdrop of the sea. Watching the fireworks reflect off the water is a magical experience you won't want to miss.
The event is scheduled for July 25 (Sat) and July 26 (Sun), 2026.
The main venues are the Iyo Port pier area and the surrounding Nada-cho shopping district in Iyo City. The open atmosphere of the seaside and the lively energy of the local streets make it a perfect setting for travelers to enjoy the festivities.
Expect significant crowds during the festival, especially around the Iyo Port pier on Sunday evening for the fireworks. To ensure a smooth experience, we recommend arriving early and allowing plenty of time for travel between locations.
As this is an outdoor summer event, heatstroke prevention is essential. We recommend wearing breathable clothing and carrying plenty of water or drinks to stay hydrated. Please be mindful of the local environment and enjoy the festivities responsibly.
