Yubara Onsen is a historic hot spring village located in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture. This region is blessed with numerous naturally flowing hot springs that have been utilized by many people throughout history. Situated amidst a rich natural environment, many local accommodations offer open-air baths or private outdoor baths, providing a perfect setting to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and truly relax.
The history of Yubara Onsen is deep and storied, having served as a medicinal hot spring destination (toji) for centuries. According to local legend, a bathhouse was established for Ofuku, the mother of Ukita Hideie (one of the five great vassals of Toyotomi Hideki). Ofuku is said to have led a remarkable life during the Sengoku period and later became a concubine of Hideki. Furthermore, this region is known for its thriving 'Tatara' ironmaking industry since the Kofun period. Because ironmaking required intense physical labor, the hot springs played a vital role as a place for recovery and recuperation for the workers.

Most accommodations feature open-air baths where you can soak while enjoying the surrounding scenery. The nighttime-time is particularly special; depending on your accommodation, you can enjoy bathing amidst a beautiful night view or in a serene, silent atmosphere. For example, using the lounge or enjoying late-night baths at your inn is an ideal way to conclude your day.
