Yaizu Sakana Center is a vibrant commercial complex located in Yakuwa, Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, dedicated to the direct sale and dining of fresh seafood. The facility operates as a hub for wholesale and retail, featuring highly fresh seafood landed at nearby ports such as Yaizu, Ogawa, and Oi River. Welcoming approximately 1.7 million visitors annually, it is a lively destination with about 70 diverse shops. From high-end tuna to local specialties and souvenirs, the variety is truly impressive.
Opened in October 1985, the center was built adjacent to the former Yaizu Food Wholesale Center. It is managed by the Yaizu Suisan Shinko Center Co., Ltd., a third-sector company established by Yaizu City and local businesses. For decades, it has played a vital role in delivering the rich bounty of the sea to consumers. Due to the aging of the current facility, discussions regarding a future relocation to the nearby Yaizu Fishing Port are also underway.
The facility is divided into the Main Building (Center Buildings A, B, C, and D) and an Annex, each offering unique experiences. You will find specialized tuna shops, stores selling Shizuoka specialties like Sakura shrimp and whitebait (shirasu), and vendors for processed goods like dried fish and seaweed. Additionally, the center is well-equipped with dining options including seafood bowl restaurants, yakiniku, ramen, and cafes, allowing you to shop and dine in one place. The seasonal variety of seafood makes every visit a new discovery.
The facility is generally open from 9:00 to 17:00. To enjoy the freshest seafood and the best selection of seafood bowls, it is highly recommended to visit in the early morning. Large-scale dining facilities like 'Sakana Dai Shokudo Nagisa' become very crowded during lunch hours. Since the types of fish landed change with the seasons, your visit will offer different culinary delights depending on the time of year.
Beyond simple shopping, you can deeply experience the culinary culture of Yaizu. A popular way to enjoy the facility is to purchase fresh tuna or seafood from a vendor and enjoy it immediately at a nearby dining hall. You can also experience the joy of purchasing high-quality processed goods like dried fish or katsuobushi (bonito flakes) to take home as authentic souvenirs.
