Suntory Kyoto Brewery, located in Nagaokakyo, Kyoto, is a major production site for the high-quality beer 'The Premium Malt's.' Since its establishment in 1969, the brewery has utilized the region's abundant groundwater to continue the tradition of brewing with pure natural water. The facility features a modern and open design, serving as an experiential tourism site where visitors can not only observe the manufacturing process but also taste the freshest beer possible.
The city of Nagaokakyo, where this factory is situated, has long been known for its excellent groundwater resources. Suntory chose this location due to its strict commitment to the quality of natural water. When 'The Premium Malt's' underwent a renewal in 2017, the facility's identity was further solidified. It plays a vital role in the production of bottled beer for the Western Japan region, serving as a historical production hub that supports Japan's rich beer culture.

The facility offers two primary programs. The first is the 'Guided Tour,' which includes an explanation of the manufacturing process and a tasting session. Lasting approximately 70 minutes, it allows you to learn about raw materials and the brewing process while enjoying the taste of freshly brewed beer. The second is the more in-depth 'The Premium Malt's Lecture.' This 90-minute program allows you to connect with the brewer's passion through video and sensory experiences, accompanied by a beer tasting with recommended snacks. Additionally, the entrance hall features a large 'The Premium Malt's' object, serving as a perfect photo spot.
The facility is generally open daily, except for the New Year holidays and designated factory closing days. Summer (July and August) is one of the best seasons to visit, as the refreshing atmosphere of the facility makes enjoying high-quality beverages even more delightful. Please note that the 'The Premium Malt's Lecture' has limited operating days, so it is essential to check the official website before your visit.
The highlight of the tour is tasting fresh beer delivered directly from the brewery. The onsite shop also sells exclusive items and specialized glassware that can only be found here. The 'factory-direct beer' is particularly popular among visitors. For those who do not consume alcohol, non-alcoholic soft drinks are available, ensuring that all visitors, including families, can share in the wonderful atmosphere.
The brewery is located in an area that captures the historical essence of Kyoto. Nearby, you can visit the 'Suntory Yamazaki Distillery' to experience whisky culture. The Nagaokakyo area, with its historical landscapes and abundant water resources, makes it a perfect addition to a Kyoto sightseeing itinerary.
While the facility is a clean and modern space, the tour may involve some walking or slight elevation changes. Upon arrival, visitors are asked to cooperate with temperature checks and hand sanitization. If you have symptoms such as fever, cough, or general malaise, please refrain from visiting. Payments at the shop can be made via cash or credit card. Please remember that both the guided tours and lectures require mandatory advance reservations via the official website or telephone.
