Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort is a premier mountain resort situated in the Kiyosato Highlands of Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The ski slopes range from an altitude of 1,600 to 1,900 meters, providing a refreshing and exhilarating environment unique to high-altitude locations. The resort's most significant feature is its exceptionally high sunny rate. Hokuto City is known for having one of the highest sunshine durations in Japan, and this facility boasts a sunny rate of approximately 80%. In winter, visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding under the vibrant, clear blue skies known as 'Yatsugatake Blue.' In summer, the resort transforms into a vibrant outdoor destination centered around the 'Kiyosato Terrace,' offering a perfect escape into nature.
The facility has a long history as a prominent ski area in Yamanashi. After undergoing significant development in the 1980s, it opened in 1990 as 'Kitz Meadows Oizumi/Kiyosato Ski Resort.' In 2002, it was renamed to its current name, 'Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort.' Today, it has evolved into a year-round highland resort that attracts many visitors not only for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding but also for its 'Green Season' operations from spring through autumn.
The highlight of this resort is the breathtaking panoramic view visible from the 1,900-meter summit. Depending on the season, you can witness the majestic Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, and the Yatsugatake Mountains rising in the background. The ski and snowboard courses are thoughtfully designed to cater to everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Additionally, the resort features a 100-meter dedicated sled course called 'Snow Land,' making it a perfect destination for families and various skill levels.
During the winter season, the focus is on high-quality skiing and snowboarding. Thanks to the high sunny rate, visitors can expect clear visibility and excellent riding conditions. From late April to early November (the Green Season), the charm of the 'Kiyosato Terrace' takes center stage. It is an ideal place to enjoy the cool highland breeze and relax in nature. The resort also features high-quality restaurants and cafes, allowing guests to enjoy gourmet meals and breaks between activities.
Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers 'Skids Camp,' a specialized kids' school. Known as one of the largest specialized schools for toddlers and elementary students in Japan, it provides excellent support for families. In the summer, you can take the lift to the summit to enjoy the spectacular scenery. The culinary experience is another highlight, with cafes and restaurants serving authentic Italian cuisine and freshly baked bread.
Located in the Kiyosato Highlands, the resort is surrounded by numerous tourist attractions. It is easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area via the Chuo Expressway and the Chubu-Odan Expressway. This makes it a perfect addition to any sightseeing itinerary within the wider Kiyosato area.
When skiing or snowboarding, appropriate heavy winter clothing and gear are essential. For those traveling with pets, please note that during the summer, pets are allowed in the center house if they are in a cage or a bag that covers the head, but they are not permitted inside the restaurants. The use of drones is strictly prohibited to ensure the safety of the lift facilities and other visitors.
