Shiga Kogen Yokotezan Ski Resort is one of Japan's most prestigious high-altitude resorts, featuring the highest point in Japan at 2,307m. Situated on the border between Nagano and Gunma Prefectures, it offers a dynamic natural landscape that changes beautifully with every season. In winter, it becomes a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding with exceptional powder snow. In summer and autumn, visitors can enjoy a refreshing atmosphere while gazing at a magnificent panorama that includes the Northern Alps, Mt. Fuji, and Mt. Asama.
Due to its unique high-altitude topography, this area has long been recognized as a vital landmark for natural scenery. The 2,307m mark represents one of the highest points on Japan's road network and serves as a significant geographical boundary between Nagano and Gunma. The greatest attraction is the overwhelming panoramic view from near the summit. On clear days, you can see the vast Nagano Basin below, the majestic Northern Alps, and even Mt. Fuji and Mt. The peak season for snow activities is winter (December to March), with January and February offering particularly stable snow quality and scenery. For summer and transitional periods (May to October), the resort is ideal for sightseeing and nature walks in a cool, high-altitude environment. To enjoy the best views, we recommend visiting in the morning, as the weather is often more stable and visibility is higher during the early hours.
Winter focuses on high-level skiing and snowboarding, utilizing the dramatic elevation changes and terrain. While Yokotezan and Shiga Kogen are interconnected, please note that certain sections may require skating or walking due to the terrain. In the warmer months, the focus shifts to scenic lift rides and high-altitude strolls. Since lift operations vary significantly by season, we highly recommend checking the current operational schedule before your visit.
This resort is part of the expansive Shiga Kogen area. While there are routes to access Kumanoyu Ski Resort via skiing, please be aware that moving from Yokotezan to Kumanoyu may require walking at the lower sections. The base area is well-equipped with parking, dining, accommodation, and first-aid facilities to ensure a comfortable stay.
Because the resort is located at 2,307m, temperatures are significantly lower than at sea level and weather can change rapidly. Even in summer, bring warm layers. Lift tickets can be purchased at the 'Akari' restaurant or near the No. 2 lift. Regarding payments, please check locally for the acceptance of cash, credit cards, or IC cards. Due to high winds and potential visibility issues at the summit, ensure you have proper safety gear and clothing at all times.
