Sapporo Beer Garden, located in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, is a premier destination centered around the themes of beer and Genghis Khan (grilled mutton). The grounds are characterized by historic red brick buildings that preserve the cultural legacy of Hokkaido's pioneering era. Within the garden, several restaurants serve fresh draft beer alongside Hokkaido's soul food, Genghis Khan, each offering a unique atmosphere. Additionally, the adjacent Sapporo Beer Museum allows visitors to delve into the deep history and knowledge of brewing.
This site is deeply connected to the development of Hokkaido. The red brick buildings (Kaitakushi Museum) hold significant historical value and are designated as a Hokkaido heritage site. The facility also houses a museum that showcases the history of Sapporo Beer, highlighting the brewing techniques and the pioneering spirit of the Meiji era. Even today, the site serves as a place to inherit tradition, offering exclusive experiences such as tasting limited-edition beers like 'Sapporo Five Star' that can only be found here.

The greatest attraction is the combination of the classical, historic architecture and the dining experience. Tasting Genghis Khan and fresh beer inside these red brick buildings is a quintessential Sapporo experience. Furthermore, the adjacent Sapporo Beer Museum features visual exhibits, including projection screen displays, to help you visualize the history of beer. The garden includes several restaurants with different vibes, such as Kaitakushi, Poplar, Lilac, and Garden Grill, allowing you to choose the perfect setting for your meal.
During the summer (June to October), a vibrant beer garden is set up in the courtyard. You can enjoy dining in an open-air space under the fresh greenery and blue skies. From mid-June to mid-October, the area is equipped with covered tent areas, so you can enjoy the atmosphere regardless of the weather. In winter, the red brick buildings are beautifully illuminated against the snowy landscape, creating a magical scenery. Please note that operating hours may vary; while weekdays are typically 11:30–21:00 (last order 20:40), weekend and holiday hours may start at 12:00, so checking in advance is recommended.

Beyond just dining, you can experience the history of beer here. After exploring the museum exhibits, you might consider a tour to taste beer straight from the source. The restaurants serve Genghis Khan made with high-quality lamb or mutton, perfectly paired with beer. Many options like all-you-can-eat or all-you-can-drink courses are available, making it ideal for groups. The ability to directly experience Hokkaido's food culture within a historic architectural setting is the defining feature of this facility.
Around the Sapporo Beer Garden, you will find the Sapporo Beer Museum, historical buildings, and garden shops. Nearby commercial facilities like the Ario shopping mall and Sapporo Factory are also easily accessible, making it easy to integrate this visit into your sightseeing itinerary. For access, you can walk from JR Naebo Station, take a direct bus from Sapporo Station, or use a taxi.
Restaurants accept cash, credit cards, electronic money (iD, WAON, nanaco, QuickPay, Rakuten Edy, transit IC cards), and QR code payments (PayPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, etc.).
